After graduating from Kings County Academy high school, he attended Acadia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Following graduation, he worked with CEIC (Canada Employment and Immigration Center) while his application for the RCMP was being processed. In the December he was offered a position with Indian Affairs and Northern Development where he was employed for 13 years. After leaving Indian Affairs he worked for three years with the Innu Nation and Health Canada as the Labrador Health Secretariat Executive Director responsible for implementing the federal action plan to address the crisis within the Labrador Innu communities. He worked in Labrador for three years before returning to Nova Scotia to start his own consulting business.
Brian worked with First Nations for 8 years as a self-employed consultant with a focus on First Nation governance and financial administration (co-management and third-party management, elections, policy development). In November 2014 Brian joined the Acadia First Nation as their band manager being responsible for some 170 staff, $30 million in revenue, three gas bars, six smoke shops, four convenience stores, four gaming operations, fisheries and forestry operations.
Brian has also worked as the Director of Administration with Glooscap First Nations before joining the Sipekne’katik Team.
