General Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, this position is accountable for overseeing the delivery of Health programs and services in the community as well as maintains and enhances existing programs and services. When applicable, this position assists with new developments as per the community’s need.
Specific Accountabilities:
 Manage overall financial, budgeting, planning and accounting for the Health Centre.
 Oversee the completion of the annual Health report (as identified in the Agreement) and submit as per the stated deadline.
 Prepare and manage the Health budget in conjunction with relevant contributors and the assistance of the Director of Finance.
 Provide direct supervision and management of the overall Health staff, including monitoring of programs, assisting with program development, conducting annual employee evaluations.
 Assist with the hiring of new staff, where required.
 Identify, prepare and implement health training to Health staff and, as required, include:
o Organizational skills
o Writing and communication skills
o Computer advancements
o Other related job training.
o Ongoing continuing education for RN’s, LPN’s and Home Care staff
 When programs are identified as per the community’s need; assist with developing, organizing, implementing and ongoing monitoring of those programs. This could include, but is not limited to:
o Organizing Health education classes;
o Performing community meetings on Health issues and Health programs.
o Assisting Community Health Nurse, where required, with school and daycare visits;
 Attend Council meetings, as required.
 Liaise with other Health and Social agencies and professionals to discuss health related issues or concerns.
 Maintain strictest confidentiality and ensure compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), when dealing with clients and agencies.
 Proposal writing, where required.
 Performs other related activities that enhance the well-being of Band members.
Core Competencies:
 Post-secondary training in the financial/accounting (Commerce) field or related field or Certification in Business Management with 5+years’ experience in Management. An equivalent amount of experience and training will be considered.
 Experience supervising and managing staff
 Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
 Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
 Strong leadership and decisiveness
 Strategic orientation and critical thinking
 Dedicated, hardworking and responsible
 Strong organizational and multi-tasking capabilities
 Knowledge of Mi’kmaq language & culture.
 Flexibility with hours of work.
