Information Technology Support Technician

General Description:

Under the direction of the IT Manager the Support Technical would be responsible for providing network support to Sipekne’katik Band Administration, sub offices and business ventures under the direction of the IT Department.


  • Update Supervisor on incoming work orders for priority
  • Act as help desk troubleshooter and representative
  • Offer user support in local and wide area networks
  • Monitor web and database access by users to ensure proper protocol is being maintained
  • Perform password maintenance to band systems
  • Perform maintenance on Unified Communication phone systems
  • Address employee enquiries concerning network access and general applications
  • Maintain a current knowledge of software and hardware upgrades
  • Maintain and update Apple Server
  • Maintain and upkeep Apple Mac Books and other devices
  • Maintain and upkeep a wide variety of band owned printers
  • Maintain and produce communication cables on demand
  • Maintaining a data back-up strategy
  • Clean and recover computers from malware infections
  • Participate in yearly radio tower inspection
  • Prepare and provide presentations to staff (e.g. workshops)
  • Other related duties as required by Supervisor


  • 2-year certificate or degree in related computer program
  • A minimum of one-year experience in a related field
  • Experience troubleshooting computer systems required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite computer applications
  • Database programming experience preferred
  • Network fundamentals in the following would be an asset:
    • Hardware applications (e.g. Cisco, TPLINK)
    • Mobile Device Support
    • Desktop and server (e.g. LINUX)
    • Window 10 Administration
    • Installing and Configuring Windows Service, Mac OS, IOS, Android
  • Aptitude to learn other programs/databases (e.g. Docushare)
  • Fundamentals in Computer/hardware/network cabling/network types
  • Must be willing to upgrade training as requested
  • Ability to work at heights and willingness to take fall protection training preferred
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle and valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License
  • A criminal records check is required.  Having a criminal record is not a determinate factor
