Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Education, this position is responsible for creating, producing and announcing topics over the radio including Music, Mi’kmaq Language Culture/Traditions, entertaining programming, news, interviews, weather and community programming information.
• Produce and narrate programs on the radio that includes producing program segments and newscasts to deliver on air. This includes determining news and information appropriate for broadcast
• Prepare and/or review public service announcements, underwriting announcements, pre-recorded reports and audio elements, newspapers and program rundowns
• Work with Education and Elders to develop a Mi’kmaq Language and Culture show
• Work with Managers and assistants to create timely program content
• Read news flashes and conduct radio interviews.
• Play music and coordinate/record commercials.
• Deliver sports announcements.
• Answer phone calls coming into radio station and respond to enquiries.
• Represent radio station at industry and community functions and events.
• Write and edit introductions and continuity for reports, actualities and other elements inserted within network programming
• Inform public of programs in community that include announcing public service information
• Run broadcasting tests
• Operate radio station equipment.
• Adjust transmitter power when required
• Maintain daily log of activity
• Other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
• Grade 12 and a post-secondary education in a related field, along with one year of related experience working with the public.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Must have excellent verbal communication and people skills.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and be reliable.
• Desire to be proactive and create a positive experience for others.
• Preference will be given to applicants from a Mi’kmaq First Nations Community.
• A criminal records check is required. Having a criminal record might not be a determinate factor.
