RE: Community Engagement Session – March 30, 2017
Dear Band Members,
On behalf of the Band Council, I want to advise there will be a community engagement session on March 30, 2017 -5:30pm at the Sipekne’katik Multipurpose Centre to discuss the following:
In order to protect the best interest of all Band Members, Sipekne’katik administration drafted a proposed membership code. This code outlines the process one must follow to become a Sipekne’katik Band Member. This is considered a substantive policy addition, and according to our policy framework, community engagement is required before approval and implementation. The draft membership code is included with this letter for your consideration. If you have any question, concerns, and/or input on this matter please contact Tricia Fultz at 902 758 2049 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Band Council Compensation Increase
Sipekne’katik Band Council are amongst the lowest paid Mi’kmaq politicians in Nova Scotia. To review compensation of other Band Council groups please visit (http://fnp-ppn.aandc-aadnc.gc.ca/fnp/Main/Search/FFListGrid.aspx?lang=eng). The Band Council have requested to engage with Band Members surrounding their current compensation, while having discussions surrounding compensation parity and cost of living increases.
In closing, I look forward to seeing you all on March 30, 2017. Due to the nature of this discussion, only Sipekne’katik Band members are welcome to attend this engagement session.
