RE: Ban on Grass Fires
Dear Band Members,
During Today’s Chief and Council meeting Grass Fires and their impact on our communities was discussed. Facts were presented to us surrounding negative consequences associated with grass fires such as environmental damages, destruction of various animal habitats, destruction of homes and buildings, and most importantly potential loss of life.
I would also like to remind everybody that we have community members that suffer from Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and other severe breathing diseases that are drastically impacted by the poor breathing conditions created by grass fires.
We the Chief and Council are currently developing a community by-law that will ban grass fires. As a responsible and caring community we would appreciate it if community members observe our request to Ban Grass Fires for the health and well being of our Elders, community members that suffer from breathing diseases, and our delicate eco system.
