Fisheries Overview

The Sipekne’katik Fisheries Department is an economic enterprise that continues to grow. The department manages 33 fishing licenses of various species, lobster and snow crab being the main revenue source.

The licenses provide and create employment opportunities for Band Members by leasing licenses or fishing for the Band.

Fishery Details

The fisheries department will continue supporting and managing the Food, Social and Ceremonial Lobster and Rights-based fishery. The fisheries are outlined for band members entitled to fishing tags and follow the management plans. Both management plans have rules and regulations which are very similar to commercial license conditions.
