Sipekne'katik Youth Centre Grand Opening
We are excited to share that Sipekne’katik Youth Centre is set to open on May 20th, 2024! There is a wonderful lineup of events taking place from May 20th – May 24th to celebrate its opening!
Monday, May 20th, 2024 – Community Open House! All are welcome to view the new space, enjoy a tour, meet the staff, learn more about youth programs, and check out interactive workshops.
Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 – An evening of Mario Kart and Fortnite Tournaments, Board Games, and VR Experiences for youth!
Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 – A movie night for youth, with popcorn and snacks!
Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 – Cultural workshops and teachings for youth.
Friday, May 24th, 2024 - We invite you all to join us for the Grand Opening Ceremony including a ribbon cutting, speeches, and a community feast from 4:00pm-6:00pm! The Youth Centre will be open to youth from 6:00pm-11:00pm.
The Youth Centre is located within Sipekne'katik Community Centre and serves community youth ages 13-18.
Community Engagement Session - Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lake
Indigevisor will be in Sipekne'katik on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 from 6:00pm-8:00pm for a Community Engagement Session at the Sipekne'katik Administrative Building. (Behind the Band Office)
This gathering is to discuss Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lake, which is seeking to become a National Park. Additional information about the project can be found on the poster below.

Mawikuti'k is hosting its 4th Annual Freedom Day. They welcome all to celebrate and honour the strength and resilience of Indigenous Residential School survivors.
Starting at the Mi'kmaq Memorial Site in Shubenacadie, family members and community supporters will march 1km to the town's River Park.

Veterans Meeting

They will be hosting a trafficking prevention workshop, hosted by POSSE in honour of National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls
They are doing a red dress call out - Please bring a red dress to the event to donate, as they will be doing a red dress display in honour of our stolen relatives.
