Notice from Sipekne’katik EMO Committee

The Sipekne’katik EMO Committee has been meeting to prepare for the imminent heat wave that is hitting our province. High temperatures are on their way, and expected to increase between Wednesday and Thursday.

The high temperatures can lead to health hazards such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke and can exasperate other existing health conditions. Please be very careful to be mindful of your and your family’s health during the heat wave.

We are also asking community members to not burn during the heat wave. The high temperatures and dry landscape can quickly become unmanageable and pose a threat to safety.

With the well-being of our community members in mind the following decisions have been made:

- LSK will be closing Wednesday June 19th, 2024 and re-opened on June 24th, 2024.

- Daycare will be closed from June 20th, 2024 and re-open on June 24th, 2024.

- All Band Administration buildings will be closed for the morning of Thursday, June 20th, 2024, for the funeral of the late Sarah Francis Sack (Michael). Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends.

- Please note that the decision has been made to remain closed for the remainder of the day on Thursday and re-open on Monday, June 24th, 2024, at 8:00 am.

- Sipekne’katik events will be postponed as required.

More updates will be provided by the EMO Committee as needed.

Updates can be found on the Sipekne’katik Smoke Signals mobile application, the official Sipekne’katik First Nation Facebook page and on sipeknekatik.ca/community-notices
