Band Member Information

Find information helpful to Band Members. Contact membership services for support with any of the information listed below.

All forms may be completed digitally but originals must be printed off and signed. Signed originals must be sent to Indigenous Services Canada or the Membership Clerk.

  • If corrections are needed to the information on your SCIS card, please make the correction before applying for a status card (laminated or SCIS).

Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) and Certificate of Indian Status are not official travel documents and cannot be used travelling into the United States by air. Acceptance of these cards at the Canada-U.S. border when travelling by land is at the discretion of the U.S. government.

  • If you have a Nova Scotia driver’s license and are registered under the Indian Act, you could be eligible for the Nova Scotia Fuel Tax Exemption Program.

Under the exemption, you can receive up to 400 litres of fuel per month, tax-free when purchased in Mi’kmaw Communities. You will be given a swipe card and exemption number that will remove the tax at the time of purchase.

Your Band membership office will need to sign off on your application before you submit it to Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services.

    Download the application.

  • If you have gone over or will go over your monthly 400 litres of fuel, you can apply for an exemption to increase the number of litres you are exempt from paying tax on.

Your application for an exemption can be sent to the NSIFTE Administrator, who does not need your band to sign off.
